Isolators Versus Attenuator Pads

Figures 3 and 4 show the advantages of the isolator over the fixed attenuator pad. The data were taken with a General Radio Type 1360-A Microwave Oscillator operating at 4.0 Gc. Loads whose reflection coefficients vary from 0 up to approximately 1.0 were used, and their phases relative to the source were varied by means of a line stretcher between the source and the load.
