Tube testers are designed to test the operating fitness of electron tubes. There are two types of testers— emission testers and dynamic mutual conductance testers. The emission testers are rapidly becoming obsolete. They check the tube for filament emission, for open circuit, and for interelectrode short circuits. Dynamic mutual conductance testers, such as the Tube Tester 1-177 shown here, check emission, mutual conductance, and interelectrode shorts. This tube tester is often included in part of a test set.
